Job Title: Distillation Tech 1
Location: Pickering, ON
Work Hours: 7 AM – 3 PM, 3PM – 11 PM
Compensation Range: $19 - $22
About the role:
The Distillation Tech 1 role plays a key role in the daily operation of hydrocarbon post-processing processes, ensuring the safe and efficient production of high-quality cannabis concentrates. This position is hands-on and requires technical and mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and adherence to strict safety and compliance standards. The Distillation Tech 1 is responsible for operating and maintaining extraction equipment, monitoring process variables, documenting production activities, and following SOPs in alignment with Good Production Practices (GPP). The role also involves performing equipment assembly and disassembly, handling pressurized vessels and compressed gases, and supporting a clean and organized laboratory environment. Success in this position requires the ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy, communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, and adapt to changing production goals in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with operating post-processing equipment and with post extraction related activities, to produce various concentrates and extracts
- Supporting post-processing requirements and recipes for the extracted oil according to the pre-determined post-processing parameters
- Obtaining samples and sample hand offs of related outputs.
- Actively operate commercial cannabis processing equipment
- Participating in a safety culture and a team-based work environment
- Competency with machines and using tools (assembly/disassembly)
- Follow strict SOPs and safety guidelines in accordance with Good Production Practices (GPP)
- Monitoring the extraction process and machinery, reporting daily on duties and tasks
- Follow the direction of Distillation Tech 2 and Distillation Tech 3
- Meeting critical timelines and deliverables
- Working on and with machines (assembly/disassembly)
- Lifting and holding heavy parts for assembly and disassembly of machines as per SOPs (50Lbs)
- Prompt communication of problems/changes with equipment/process
- Regularly carrying out repetitive tasks
- Flexibility to adapt to changing production goals and timelines with a positive and professional attitude
- Using basic math calculations
- Communicating process variables (weight, temperature, pressure, other settings)
- Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement in the quality of the products
- Care for inputs and outputs of materials in the process
- Ensure the cleanliness and industrial hygiene of work areas
- Working with compressed gases and pressurized vessels to produce various concentrates and extracts
- Handling of hot and cold materials, fragile components, and delicate materials with appropriate PPE
- Coordinate extraction activities with QA to ensure extraction is performed per cGPP standards.
- Other ad hoc tasks as operationally required.
Job Requirements:
- Technical/mechanical experience and or education
- Previous experience in Hydrocarbon extraction or in a closely similar role
- Comfortable working in a laboratory environment with compressed gas and hazardous materials
- Ability to follow SOPs, safety protocols, and Good Production Practices (GPP)
- Strong Attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately
- Capable of lifting and handling equipment and parts up to 50 lbs
- Effective communication skills to report process variables and equipment issues
- Time management skills to meet production goals and timelines
- Familiarity with cannabis extraction processes, concentrates, and basic heating/cooling equipment is an asset
- Chemistry or mechanical background is an asset
- Experience working with vacuum pumps and compressors is an asset
- Experience working in a cannabis LP or related industry is an asset
